Program contrasts
- Specific or general studies: A large share of the MSM student’s studies are industry-specific, directly related to an area in which the student has been working—IT, health care management or operations management. The MBA program, meanwhile, provides a broader overview of business operations and management skills that can be applied in any organization or entrepreneurial venture.
- Practicum experiences: The MBA program concludes with a single 25-week practicum—either a business plan for an entrepreneurial enterprise, or a business project within an existing organization. The MSM includes several practicums in addition to a concluding 25-week business project.
- Admission: Graduate admission decisions are made on the basis of several variables and an interview with the program dean or the dean's representative. An applicant eligible for the MSM program will typically have experience or a special interest in the chosen area of emphasis. The MBA program applicant may have preparation in any area of study.
