The Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps was established before the Declaration of Independence was signed, and today continues to provide exciting career opportunities.
Military paralegal specialists & legalmen
Today JAG offers military legal specialists, Navy Legalmen and military paralegal specialists a broad array of opportunities in military law, criminal law and international law. In fact, the military legal specialist has training and performs duties similar to those of paralegals, legal assistants and court clerks in civilian life, yet may have the opportunity for a more intense level of experience.
Paralegal specialists in the JAG Corps assist judges, lawyers and unit commanders with legal, judicial and administrative work. Duties may include:
-
Legal research and research on military regulations
-
Processing legal claims and appeals
-
Preparing records of hearings, investigations, court-martials and courts of inquiry
