In just seven or eight quarters, you can complete legal studies and skills training leading to the A.A.S. in Paralegal, and begin an exciting and challenging career as a legal assistant.
Legal studies: The current trend in medium to large law firms and corporate legal departments is for a paralegal or legal assistant to specialize in a specific practice area. What interests you? Do you know where you would fit into that picture? Your instructors will be lawyers and experienced paralegals. In the course of your two-year associates degree program you will take paralegal courses that will provide general knowledge of the following, so you will be prepared to request an area of law for your internship and be knowledgeable from day one in the office:

Computer and legal research skills: In your legal research class you will use Westlaw, Lexis, and our law library. In the Law Office Procedures and Technology class you will learn to use legal software for timekeeping and billing. You will also take courses in computer information systems, legal terminology, and Microsoft Office Pro.
Communications and critical thinking: In your career as a legal assistant, you will be expected to prepare legal documents, interact with clients, and make solid decisions. Not only specific courses such as business communications and legal ethics, but every course you take as you earn your associates in paralegal degree will focus on clear communications and critical thinking skills.
Internship: As you near the end of the paralegal associate degree program, you will be ready to choose an area of interest for your internship. You will have the legal knowledge your supervising attorney expects, and the opportunity to see the law in action.

Career opportunities with an associate in paralegal degree
