College preparation for a law enforcement career

It is not enough to have the right personality – employers in law enforcement look for job candidates with training in law enforcement practice and a demonstrated ability to write reports and keep accurate records. Your Associate in Criminal Justice degree from Globe University/Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB) will demonstrate to prospective employers that you have studied theory and practice of law enforcement, have critical communications skills and are committed to professional accomplishment.

At GU/MSB, we asked the advice of criminal justice professionals when designing our degree program, ensuring that our students receive current, practical law enforcement training and are ready to take on challenging positions with the following organizations:

  • City police departments
  • County sheriffs’ departments
  • State patrol agencies
  • Federal agencies
  • Private security companies

Career opportunities in law enforcement:

As in other areas of the criminal justice system, law enforcement agencies often offer specific career ladders. With an A.A.S. in Criminal Justice you can look forward to regular opportunities for advancement, and will be eligible for hire in entry-level positions such as the following:

  • Private detective
  • Police officer candidate*
  • State patrol officer candidate*
  • Deputy sheriff candidate*
  • Transportation and security administration (TSA) screening officer

The number of jobs in Minnesota for private detectives, investigators and security guards, and the number of federal jobs for airport security is expected to grow faster than average through the year 2012. Are you ready for those career opportunities?
