Criminal Justice Associate Degree Program


  • Our Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Criminal Justice program will teach you the theories underlying our society’s law enforcement, judicial and corrections systems.
  • You will also learn how to apply that knowledge in situations where the three areas intersect.

Coursework leading to the A.A.S. in Criminal Justice

GU/MSB students also are eligible for reduced rates on firearms training, including four hours in the classroom and four hours at the firing range, in preparation for the Minnesota Permit to Carry a Concealed Weapon test.

In addition to theoretical and practical criminal justice courses, students complete general education coursework that develops their communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The associates’ degree in criminal justice is an excellent foundation for future studies in the social sciences or legal sciences. Topics addressed include:

  • Juvenile, community and corporate practices
  • Criminal and private investigation
  • Biological theories of crime and criminal behavior
  • Psychological theories of crime and criminal behavior
  • Prediction of and reaction to criminal behavior
  • Forensic psychology
  • Profiling violent criminals
  • Juvenile delinquency
  • Future direction of crime, behavior, and public policy

The Associate in Criminal Justice degree program is offered at all GU/MSB college campuses, including locations in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul area: IDS Center, Blaine, Brooklyn Center, Woodbury, Plymouth, Richfield, and Shakopee), Rochester, Moorhead and St. Cloud, MN; Eau Claire, WI; and Sioux Falls, SD.
