The game developer: intelligent design

As a game developer, you will bring a story to life, provide the appropriate levels of challenge for the gamer and develop complex characters that come to life. In our associate degree program you will study computer programming and artistic design. Your work will also be shaped by studies in communications, social sciences, humanities and fine arts, training that will provide depth and subtlety to your artistic creations. Questions? Associate degree program requirements

The A.A.S. in Programming and Game Development program requires 121 credits. This is roughly a 2-year program. Depending on a careful evaluation of your situation, you may be able to apply college credit for work experience or industry certifications to the 91 core credits, and previous liberal arts coursework may fulfill all or part of your general education requirements. Game Development courses leading to the degree include the following:

  • Game Interface Design & Theory This course will teach you the fundamentals of design and master design documents. It i ncludes areas of design issues, introduction to game programming and level design.
  • Animation in Game Development An introduction to animation, this course includes exploration of the user interface, viewports, objects, file management, modeling with 2d splines, polygons and compound objects.
  • Game Engine Programming This course covers the application of existing game engine technologies toward developing complex new games. Upon completion, you will be able to identify and utilize structures that are common to a variety of game engines.
  • Game Development Production Create your own computer game! You will learn game engine design and Windows programming, with emphasis on implementing a design document into a workable computer game.
  • Lighting, Scene, and Set Design In this course you’ll be introduced to the artistic representation of light and shadow and the application of those concepts to various forms of animation. You will be able to create lighting effects from invented light sources and utilize lighting features for use in storyboards, 2D animation and 3D animation
