Careers in Veterinary Technology
Working with animals may be your dream-come-true. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects excellent career opportunities for veterinary technicians and technologists in the coming years—with 36% projected growth from 2008 to 2018.* If you are interested, consider Globe University/Minnesota School of Business. Our college offers two-year and four-year vet tech programs—hands-on training in employer-requested skills.
Job opportunities
Most veterinary technologists and technicians begin their careers in small animal practices, but there are opportunities in large animal practices, animal rescue operations, wildlife rehabilitation centers, zoos and animal research labs, as well as in industries that support animal care. Vet techs perform various lab tests and assist in the treatment of diseases and other medical conditions in animals. Effective communication with pet owners is a crucial component of the work, as is the ability to work well in stressful situations and the capacity to confront death. Pay and responsibilities vary with education and experience.
Degree programs
The 4-year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Veterinary Technology Management degree can be completed in 39 months of full-time study. Coursework includes advanced skills training in equine medicine, animal anesthesia, and dentistry.
The two-year Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Veterinary Technology degree program focuses on core skills in laboratory procedures and animal care, including lab animal care, radiology, surgical assisting and other veterinary clinic skills.
