Business Management for the Golf Industry

Minnesota’s beautiful and diverse landscape attracts top golf course designers and promotes a high rate of participation in the sport. According to the Minnesota Golf Association, it is the only state to have hosted all thirteen USGA Championships, has more golfers per capita than any other state, and vies with North Dakota and Wisconsin for most golf courses per capita.

It is natural, then, that Globe University/Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB), a career college centered in the Upper Midwest, offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree with an emphasis in golf.

A bachelor's in management for the business of golf

golGU/MSB has, for 130 years, focused on providing practical skills that address current industry needs. When designing the Business Management, Golf Emphasis program, we called on golf pros, golf course managers and others in the industry for advice. The resulting program provides the training employers are looking for. The program covers two areas: golf management and business administration.

Golf management training

Students enrolled in the golf emphasis, offered through all GU/MSB campuses complete 49 credits in courses that specifically address hospitality and golf management:

  • Golf Operations I and II
  • Golf Marketing
  • Hospitality Management
  • Hospitality Service Strategies
  • Recruitment and Retention
  • Gold Course and Turf Management
  • Sports Psychology
  • Consumer Behavior
  • Marketing Strategies
  • Golf Management Externship

Business management training

During the first two years of the program, students complete 77 credits in business courses, including accounting, business communications, computer information systems, small business management, business law, human resources, operations, marketing and ethics. An Associate in Accounting degree or Associate in Business Administration degree from GU/MSB will fulfill these core requirements.

Graduates will have strong business management skills coupled with golf management operations, hospitality management, golf specific marketing, golf course and turf management, and, through an externship completed in the field, the demonstrated ability to handle management and administrative responsibilities.

Do you have work experience, military training, industry training or transfer credits?

The Education Department at GU/MSB will evaluate requests from military students, transfer students and working professionals for college credit for work experience, military training and transfer credits.
