A Career in Business Management: Human Resources

  • As a human resources professional, you will be responsible for one of the most important factors in the success of any business – the recruitment, retention and management of high-value employees.
  • Our unique program in business management with an emphasis in human resources will prepare you to meet those challenges.

The intersection of management and human resources

Every company's success hinges on its management of human capital. Any HR pro or business manager faces challenging questions regarding regulatory compliance, operational concerns and financial constraints in an environment defined by complex human behavior. Consider:

  • How do you decide which candidate is best for the job?
  • What compensation package will make your company competitive in a certain industry and geographic area?
  • How do you train managers to avoid discrimination and harassment claims?
  • What is your company’s responsibility when an employee quits?
  • How do you groom talented people for advancement?

Every small business and large corporation needs HR professionals

If you become a small business manager or business owner, you will need to cover all of those bases yourself. If you work for a larger corporation, you will work with a human resources team, either focusing on one area of human resources or managing HR for a certain sector of the company. The business management: human resources program at Globe University/Minnesota School of Business combines the business management training you need to understand the context of the issues, and the human resources training you need to resolve them appropriately. Below is a program summary. Contact a college representative to discuss program details.

Human resources courses for business management professionals

When developing our business management program, we asked professionals and industry leaders to work with our instructor to see that our students were receiving the training employers look for. On the board's recommendation, those pursuing the bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in human resources take human resource management courses that address the following topics:

  • Organizational behavior
  • Intercultural communications
  • Art of persuasion
  • Workplace legal issues
  • Workplace diversity issues
  • Compensation and employment
  • Recruitment
  • Employee retention
  • Training and development
  • Managing change

You can complete the entire human resource management emphasis, along with business management coursework, online, or take day or evening classes at campuses in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) area, St. Cloud, Moorhead and Rochester, MN; Sioux Falls, SD; and Eau Claire, WI.

Many students fulfill the requirements for the first two years of the bachelor’s degree program with an associate degree in business administration or an associate degree in accounting from Globe University/Minnesota School of Business, while others apply transfer credits and credit-equivalency for work experience to the program.
