The Accounting Job Market is Expanding

The demand for job applicants with accounting credentials is growing. According to the Robert Half International Financial Leadership Council, “public accounting firms, private industry and not-for-profit firms are all competing for the best talent.”

At Globe University/Minnesota School of Business, we offer the focused, practical training employers expect. We will help you stand out from the crowd. Contact us to find out more.

Good economy, bad economy – always a demand for accounting professionals

An accounting degree is a win-win proposition. When the economy sags, businesses become even more focused on tracking profits and expenses – and they hire accounting professionals. When the economy is expanding, businesses expand – and hire accountants. The profession offers excellent job security and opportunity in the face of economic fluctuations.

The expanding role of the accountant

Forget the image of the accountant totaling up numbers in a dusty back room. Today’s accounting professionals still process numbers – and then analyze and interpret the results and participate in strategic planning and executive-level decision making. The accounting job market can broadly be divided into three areas:

  • Auditing
  • Financial and tax accounting
  • Management accounting

At Globe University/Minnesota School of Business we constantly review our accounting programs to see that our curriculum is addressing current issues. An example is our Fraud Examination class, focused on finding and preventing a wide range of business misbehaviors in light of recent regulatory requirements. Request more information.

Skills employers look for

Our college focuses on providing students in our accounting program with practical training that prepares them to make positive contributions from the first day on the job. We developed our accounting diploma and degree programs after consulting with business and industry advisors. Our graduates have the following skills employers look for:

  • Proficiency in accounting and business software applications
  • Knowledge of tax accounting, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable and inventory
  • Excellent communication, organizational and teamwork skills

Your career path – be flexible, be ready for opportunity

Your first job after graduation may be your dream job – or it may be a step along the way. Our Career Services support begins while you are a student and continues beyond graduation. The accounting field offers a range of opportunities. It is our goal to see you are ready to take advantage of them as they arise.

  • Many of our students complete an Accounting Diploma four-quarter program  and enter the workforce as general accounting, payroll, inventory, billing, accounts receivable or accounts payable clerks.
  • Our programs are designed so those degree credits can later be applied to a bachelor’s degree in accounting.or an Associate  in Management Accounting six-quarter program.
  • Graduates of our Bachelor’s in Accounting and Associate in Accounting and Tax Specialist programs are prepared to take various accounting certification exams
  • The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Accounting program prepares a graduate for all entry-level positions, and also for an extraordinary range of mid-range positions, including financial, budget, treasury or cost analyst, collections analyst, assistant credit manager and cost accountant. The Bachelor's in Accounting serves as an excellent base for advanced degrees, including the MBA degree.
