Running through the first few weeks of this new quarter, an empty barrel was placed at the bottom of the stairs at Minnesota School of Business-St.Cloud. The goal, set forth by the Health Careers Association, was to fill the barrel with children’s books to be donated to the St. Cloud Hospital Children’s Center.
The Health Careers Associations is comprised of students in the medical assistant, health care management and exercise science programs. The current president is Michael Dase, medical assistant student.
The associations have been an integral part of the campus culture, and all students are encouraged to join the association affiliated with their program.
“Joining an association is a wonderful experience. It is giving back to the community, and it is also networking. You never know who you might come across while out on an event,” added Dase. “You also learn people skills and you meet new people.”
The association has been wanting to do something locally and have talked about having a book donation for a few quarters now. “We thought, hey, let’s run this and bring a smile and joy to the children, who are stuck in the hospital,” said Dase, who reached out to Stephanie McNaughton, certified child life specialist at the St. Cloud Hospital.
“It was great to have the book donation as we are appreciative of all support from the community,” said McNaughton as three boxes of books were delivered to the Children’s Center. The pediatric unit cares for children up to 17 years of age. Dase would like to thank everyone that donated.
“It felt really good to run a fundraiser like this, and give back to our children,” said Dase.
The Children’s Center is always looking for donations, and be sure to check out their wish list.
