Tools for Success in Online Learning

Posted by on January 5, 2015

Winter Quarter has arrived at Minnesota School of Business-Online. The start of new classes can be stressful, but there are various resources at your fingertips to help you get an “A” on your accounting test or a second set of eyes on your paper!

If you are a new student, your first quarter of classes can be overwhelming. The Student Launch Pad is a place to help familiarize yourself with Blackboardlaunch_pad_capture and online learning.

The Online Learning section of the Student Launch Pad (which is inside CampusConnect) will help prepare you for class. Tutorials are available to show you the ins and outs of Blackboard and CampusConnect. There is also a discussion board that is always available to have any question answered.

Support Services is another resource within the Student Launch Pad. This area highlights different departments that you will come into contact with throughout your college career and show you how each department can assist you throughout your time at the MSB-Online.

If you are stumped on a math question or want a tutor to look over a paper, Smarthinking is a free tool that all students can take advantage of. Smarthinking’s Writing Center offers a vast array of options to help you ace your paper. Submit a paper and a tutor will review, critique and offer tips for improvement. Plan ahead if you intend to use this resource as there is a 24-hour turnaround time on papers.

Smarthinking also offers live tutors in many different subjects. You can schedule a 30-minute session or join an on-demand session. Many of the on-demand sessions are available throughout the day and evening to fit into your busy schedule.

There are times that you may have a quick question and want to ask an instructor for clarification or chat with your classmates for a group project. Download Blackboard IM to have access to classmates and instructors who have also downloaded this application. Blackboard IM is great for group projects, keeping in touch with classmates or asking questions.

The Student Launch Pad, Smarthinking and Blackboard IM are just a few tools to help you succeed. If you ever need assistance throughout your quarter, you can reach out to your academic advisor or instructor.

We wish you the best of luck in your upcoming quarter!
