Minnesota School of Business-Elk River recently added a new staff member to the education and career services teams. Laurie Ternes, MSB-Elk River's new administrative assistant

Laurie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from a college in New Jersey and previously worked in the mortgage industry in post-closing and compliance. She heard of the position through her stepdaughter who works at the Richfield campus and decided it was time to try something new.

Laurie and her husband, Mark, are avid Harley Davidson fans. They own a Harley and like to ride with friends and explore new places. Another hobby that they both enjoy is camping. Laurie also enjoys golfing in a golf league in the summer.

Laurie is a passionate supporter and volunteer at Can Do Canines, which, according to their website, is “dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities by creating mutually beneficial partnerships with specially trained dogs.”

Laurie hopes to someday be a puppy raiser herself to help them out and eventually get her own dog.

Another volunteer opportunity that Laurie takes advantage of every year is helping out at the MS150, a bike ride for Multiple Sclerosis in Hinckley, MN. She and her husband make a weekend of it and camp overnight and spend the rest of the time volunteering at the event.

“I’m really excited about being here,” explained Laurie in a recent interview. Her personality fits in very well on campus. She strives to make people happy and smile, which is appreciated by all.

Plan to visit us and meet Laurie soon. You can find her either assisting in the education department, career services or at the front desk in the evenings.
