You may have seen flyers around the MSB-Elk River campus with information about our newest resource to assist students in need of writing and math help.
Several Minnesota School of Business campuses (Elk River, Blaine, Brooklyn Center, and St. Cloud) recently rolled out the Virtual Coaching Center (VCC), which is similar to the campus coaching center except it is accessible remotely.
Dan Roddin, MSB-Elk River math and technology instructor, came up with the idea to offer more opportunities for students to get the help they need.
The campus coaching centers are somewhat limited in the assistance that they can provide based on scheduling and availability of instructors. Roddin began working with Elk River campus staff and faculty to design a program that would be the most user-friendly for both students and faculty utilizing the VCC.
Through the use of Microsoft Lync, Roddin was able to create a schedule for each instructor from each campus to provide remote assistance in writing and math. The schedule, helpful videos and a link to the VCC have been loaded into the Student Launchpad under Student Services for easy access.
There are 10 VCC sessions available throughout each week for writing and math. The instructors log in at the beginning of their session and are just a click away if students need help. Features that are available during each session include:
- A shared whiteboard
- The ability to present and share your desktop
- Text chat
- Audio/video chat
If you are interested in checking out the VCC, go to the Student Launchpad and find the information under Student Services. You can also watch a video about the VCC.
