New graduates listen closely to the keynote speaker, Orpah Sindt

The stage was set for the Minnesota School of Business-Online graduates to take their seats as they begin their post-graduation lives. The unusually warm evening in September set the background for graduates to get a sneak peek of what to expect in the days and months to come, thanks to keynote speaker and former Minnesota School of Business-Online graduate, Orpah Sindt’s, words of advice.

The 29 graduates in attendance filed into their seats on the stage and listened carefully as student speaker Esther Pabon delivered her words of encouragement and praise to her fellow classmates. Next up was faculty speaker John Skoy. Skoy immediately announced that he would not be making a speech, but would instead show students the metaphorical bag they’d need to pack for the future.

Items in Skoy’s backpack included:

         • Paper Towels- In life there are two kinds of people. People who make messes. And, people who clean                 them up. Be the person that cleans them up.
         • White Board Supplies- Teach someone. You will grow as a person
         • Journal- Keep a journal. You’ll be glad you did.
         • Friendship Bracelets- Try and make a lot of friends. You never know what doors it’ll open for you.
         • Harmonica- Learn something new.
         • Magazine- Be talked about, make a buzz about yourself.

Last, but certainly not least, was the much anticipated speech from accounting degree program alumnus, Orpah Sindt. Sindt, a true graduate success story, shared with graduates how she got to where she is today and what steps they should be taking now to ensure their own success.

Sindt warned students not to be complacent and that the next few months in their lives, the graduates should expect more challenges. Sindt went on to say graduates should, “learn from your mistakes and move forward; never stop. Just keep going as far as you can in life.”

Sindt also coached the graduates by saying, “Graduation is a turning point in your life. Pursue your dreams relentlessly and make them a reality. Your hard work and determination is what brought you to this point, so now you just keep the ball rolling.”

As Sindt reached the end of her speech she concluded with a simple but powerful phrase. “You now have something that no one can ever take away from you. Be strong and determined, and you will go far.”

Congrats to all of our Summer Quarter 2014 graduates!
