The Blaine campus is excited to announce it will soon debut a new testing center which will allow students, staff members, and the general public to take examinations leading to information technology and business certifications.
“We will now be able to administer Microsoft and other valuable information technology exams for Microsoft Office Specialist, Intuit QuickBooks, Microsoft Technology Associate, and IC3 certifications, among others,” said John Daley, program chair of information technology at the Minnesota School of Business-Blaine campus (MSB). “This will provide those taking the exams with the opportunity to add a significant extra credential to their résumé.”
Business students will benefit also with the capability of certification for Intuit QuickBooks. Dave Erickson, business program chair, believes the new certification center can act as a focus for the merging of information technology and business skills.
Daley agrees: “Industry trends in business intelligence (BI) and business analytics, including ‘big data’, demonstrate the need for information technology students to be business-savvy and vice versa.” Daley brought a demonstration of big data analytics into the classroom recently, using free Google tools available via the Internet to illustrate how SQL queries and big data have the ability to make decisions and find patterns within the data.
“The new certification center is a great addition to our campus,” IT student, Chris Schouten said. “This will give Blaine students a convenient opportunity to obtain the best of both worlds: a degree and certifications. That should make MSB Blaine students even more competitive in the job market.”
Details on exact certifications offered, testing center hours, and examination fees will be available soon.
