Engaging members of our local community with our campus community is something Minnesota School of Business-Lakeville focuses on each quarter. One of our current community engagement activities is done through our massage therapy degree program. Each Friday, the massage therapy program offers “Friday Open Classes” for our students and members of the community to take part in.
On Friday, Aug. 9, Stephanie Strand, massage therapy program chair, hosted a chair massage training class, inviting those interested in learning how to perform a proper chair massage to visit our campus. These types of events offer a chance for our massage therapy faculty to welcome members of our community on campus and also provide them with free services.
For the remainder of summer quarter, the massage therapy program will host a variety of these classes, including two off-campus field trip events which will allow students and community members to visit with local professionals in our area. Here is a list of upcoming classes:
August 16 – Tips and Tricks for Massage Therapists
August 30 – Spa Field Trip
September 6 – Body Mechanics
September 13 – National Certification Test Preparation
September 20 – Fitness Field Trip
“The massage therapy program faculty is excited to be able to offer the Friday Open Classes not only to our current students, but to members of our community as well,” Stephanie Strand said. “We are hoping those individuals who have thought about a career in massage therapy will check out some of the classes.”
For current students, Friday Open Classes provide another opportunity to learn skills relating to their career field. The classes also allow students to network with community members, practicing their professionalism skills.
Those interested in attending any of the upcoming classes are asked to RSVP with Stephanie Strand at email@example.com. Most classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and meet on campus in room 015.
