Summer quarter is in full swing, which means it is time to introduce our readers to two staff members at Minnesota School of Business-Brooklyn Center. Please enjoy learning more about Tyler Shepard, information technology program chair, and Leah Carlson, administrative assistant.
Meet Tyler Shepard
Tyler has been with Minnesota School of Business for the past three years. He began as an adjunct instructor teaching at five different Twin Cities campuses. He then became the information technology program chair at both the Plymouth and Brooklyn Center campuses; presently, he serves as the program chair only at the Brooklyn Center campus.
Tyler received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education, Business Administration, and Mass Communication from Winona State University. He went on to earn a Certificate in Teaching with Technology from Hamline University as well as a Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Minnesota School of Business.
What Tyler likes most about working at the Brooklyn Center campus is the friendly and welcoming environment and the excitement and attitudes of both students and instructors. His favorite memories are from an IT Build a Computer project at the Elk River campus, the AVID professional development days at Brooklyn Center, and the graduations at Brooklyn Center.
In his spare time, Tyler enjoys boating, traveling, working out, and doing home improvement projects. He also does online remote support for Geek Squad. Tyler’s guilty pleasures are technology and computers; he is a “geek” by nature! His favorite band is The Calling, and his all time favorite is Keith Urban. Tyler’s favorite television show is “The Bone Collector.” His favorite foods are Mexican lasagna, tacos and chicken enchiladas.
Tyler lives in Medina, Minn., with his partner and their two dogs Zowie and Fletcher.
Meet Leah Carlson
Leah has been with Minnesota School of Business for the past six years. She has worked as an administrative assistant the entire time and has helped with student accounts in the past. Soon, she will add financial aid assistant to her job duties.
Leah has received a Paralegal Post-Baccalaureate Certificate, an Associate in Applied Science in Medical Administrative Assistant, and a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management. She earned all three degrees at Minnesota School of Business.
What Leah likes most about working at the Brooklyn Center campus is working and interacting with the students and the staff. She also loves the fact that something new and interesting happens every day. Her favorite memories all include graduation ceremonies. She loves to see students progress through their education and then graduate.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, and relaxing at home. Leah’s favorite band is The Civil Wars, and her favorite movie is “The Fifth Element.” Her favorite food is a burger; she loves to try out new types of burgers at various restaurants when she travels. No matter how busy she gets, Leah has been known to read between 50-80 books per year.
Pictures and stories about both Tyler and Leah are located near the front entrance of the campus. Check out the other walls around the building to see who our highlighted graduates and students of the quarter are.
