16 Pieces of Advice for Life After College

Posted by on March 29, 2013

Minnesota School of Business’s Blaine campus will celebrate the commencement of 51 graduates on Friday, March 29. Dean Marquart, who will earn a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, will deliver the graduate speech, and Julie Oglesby, veterinary technology instructor, will be the keynote speaker.

As the winter quarter graduates prepare to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas, staff and faculty wanted to send them off with these 16 pieces of advice and words of encouragement for life after college:

Minnesota School of Business1. Eric Slette, Director of Career Services: “Don’t be afraid of hearing ‘no’ from an employer – each one of us has heard it before and has made us much better prepared for the employer who said ‘yes.'”

Minnesota School of Business2. Dave Erickson, Business Program Chair: “Follow your heart; do what you love to do and let the money take care of itself; don’t ever give up; and pass on your positive knowledge and support to someone else who needs it – as you did in school.”

Minnesota School of Business3. Diana Igo, Campus Director: “We wish you the best in your future career endeavors and are confident you have the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in your chosen career field.  You have made a difference in our lives and we are proud and honored to have had the opportunity to work with you towards obtaining your diploma!”

Minnesota School of Business4. Julie Kresh, Service Learning Coordinator: “Graduates: Stay connected with your network of fellow students from school. You very well may need each other after graduation for professional, and perhaps other, purposes. Also, stay involved and active in professional development within your field. It shows that you are willing to take extra steps to better yourself, which is something not everyone is willing to do. Always strive to be better and do better. Always.”

5. Ashley Welsh, Admissions Representative: “Look back and smile at the big accomplishment, (graduation) and look forward to the next journey and its accomplishments it will bring as well!”

Minnesota School of Business6. Patty Horazdovsky, Academic Coordinator:
“Be proud of your accomplishments at MSB and continue striving toward new goals!”

Minnesota School of Business7. Laura Fourniea, Director of Financial Aid: “Your education is an investment in your future; money well spent!”

Minnesota School of Business8. Robin Gauvin, Admissions Representative: “Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.”

Minnesota School of Business9. Angie Buettner, Veterinary Technology Instructor: “Stay true to your passion.  It is what got you to where you are today.”

Minnesota School of Business10. John Daley, Information Technology Program Chair: “Your degree will help lift you above your peers and open doors for you that used to be locked shut. Make sure you walk through those doors and compete aggressively for the opportunities that have been opened up to you. Remember that we are always by your side. Adopt a strategy of life-long learning and you can achieve more than you think is possible right now.”

Minnesota School of Business11. Sara Krugerud, Massage Therapy Program Chair: “Remember the excitement you feel today and start every day with those feelings!”

Minnesota School of Business12. Kristine McBride, Dean of Faculty: “Congratulations on obtaining your degrees!  Remember – nobody can EVER take your degree away from you, so be proud of it and know we have confidence in you and your abilities!”

Minnesota School of Business13. Sarah Panek, Administrative Assistant: “
Although you have completed your degree and are graduating today, your education and learning opportunities will not end here.  Rather, your journey starts now!  Take the skills and experiences that you have obtained here at the Minnesota School of Business to continue to challenge yourself and strive towards fulfilling your passion in work and life. Wishing you all the best!  Congratulations graduates!”

Minnesota School of Business14. Nicole Etter, Career Services Coordinator: “Congratulations graduates! Education is something you will have with you for the rest of your life, and it is something that no one can take away. Be confident in your wonderful achievement!”

15. Ryan Samuelson, Criminal Justice Program Chair: “Find out what you love, and spend as much time as possible doing it.”

Minnesota School of Business16. Melissa Young, Associate Director of Career Services: “The secret of success is to be like a duck – smooth and unruffled on top, but paddling furiously underneath” (author unknown)
