Globe University and Minnesota School of Business are proud to honor Myrl Mahaney as our March 2013 Veteran of the Month. Myrl is a veteran of the Korean War.
The Korean War began as a conflict between North (Communist) and South (Non-communist) Korea. When North Korean forces invaded South Korea in June of 1950, then President Truman authorized the use of force. The US was later joined by other United Nations members. The war ended with an armistice agreement in July of 1953 after both sides had suffered heavy losses.
Myrl was invited to join the army in July of 1951 at age 19. Before serving in Korea from March of 1952 through March of 1953, Myrl was sent to Japan in January of 1952. He was classified a correspondence clerk and served as a cryptographer, encoding and decoding messages.
After serving in Korea until 1953, Myrl returned to his hometown of Aberdeen, South Dakota and later graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen.
Myrl currently lives in Prior Lake, MN where he is an active member of the local VFW. His career was in the food business at Dairy Queen and Supervalu for many years.
Globe University and Minnesota School of Business would like to thank Myrl and all of our veterans for their service. We are proud to be a Yellow-Ribbon School and support our military members and their families. Globe University and Minnesota School of Business partner with WCCO to bring you the Veteran of the Month.
