Triumph! Sensational 6 Win Big at DECA State Competition

accounting degree, DECASix fearless collegiate DECA students from Minnesota School of Business-Lakeville journeyed to the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato, Minn., to participate in the State Career Development Conference on February 26-28. The conference featured competitions in categories ranging from accounting to sports to entertainment marketing.

The MSB-Lakeville students performed magnificently, with all six making the finals in multiple events. Accounting degree student Kris Selting led the way as champion in accounting and corporate finance! Kris teamed up with Jacob (McClure) Reichenberger to take third in business to business marketing as well. MSB-Lakeville accounting students swept the top three spots in both accounting and corporate finance. Every team member placed in the top five in at least one event!

accounting degree, DECAStudents also had time for some fun on the trip. During down time, the team rode the merry-go-round at the local mall and attended a pre-awards dinner at Five Guys Burgers and Fries. To further encourage the team during the awards ceremony, the team took to Skype, where Advisor Craig Wilson’s Tax II class at MSB-Lakeville cheered on their classmates Kris Selting, Christine Drentlaw and Ryan Skluzacek.

In addition to the students’ competition awards, the MSB-Lakeville chapter was recognized as a Diamond chapter for its community service and for aiding the development of other chapters by hosting a competition and promoting DECA to other students and campuses.

Christine Drentlaw, Ryan Skluzacek, and Kris Selting also were honored for their leadership and service to fellow students.

Next up for the “sensational six” is the International Career Development Conference on April 17-21 in Anaheim, Calif.
