Neither rain nor sleet nor dark of morning could stop Minnesota School of Business (MSB) DECA students from participating in the DECA Invitational at the MSB-Lakeville campus on January 11.
Students competed in nine different events, from retail management to human resources, accounting to marketing management. The tournament was a “tune up” for the State conference and competition to be held at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato on February 26-28.
The students, who represented six MSB campuses, entered up to three events and had 30 minutes to an hour to prepare their case for the judge. Most of the events were for individuals, but Business Ethics and Business-to-Business Marketing involved teams of two. The top three competitors or teams in each category went home with medals. In a handful of categories local sponsors provided scholarships to help fund the cost for the State conference!
“DECA provides our students a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on activities that prepare them for their future careers,” said Craig Wilson, accounting program chair at Minnesota School of Business-Lakeville. “Experiential events like this invitational allow students to practice what they are learning in the classroom and further enhance those skills.”
At the end of the day everyone had a blast, got to know each other better, and are excited for State!
Below are the final results from the competition.
Thank you to the generous event sponsors: Aero Assemblies, Inc., S.B. Budenske, CPA, Ltd., Wallen-Friedman & Floyd, PLLP – Attorneys at Law, Oak Court Consulting, and Jimmy Johns Lakeville.
