Minnesota School of Business-Lakeville welcomed Annette Kuyper, Warrior to Citizen Group Leader, to the campus to discuss how the Yellow Ribbon Network might partner with business administration degree students to assist with a new marketing project. Annette visited our Business Communication class. She shared information about how the Yellow Ribbon Network helps out service members, veterans and military families. Business Communication, Yellow Ribbon Network Meeting

Students in the Business Communication class are working on a service learning project for the Yellow Ribbon Network, creating a new brochure to spread awareness.

The class will be working to create a number of different tools for the Yellow Ribbon Network with the class goal to help the organization spread awareness about how they can assist service members and their families. Students also hope to help promote some of the upcoming events that the Yellow Ribbon Network is sponsoring.

Some of the many objectives of the course include building customer service skills, asking professional questions, and learning to participate in business meetings and presentations. The students will have the opportunity to build on all of these skills through this project.

Below are a few great upcoming events that are happening in the Lakeville community:

  • Veterans Dinner: It is about camaraderie. It is a chance for all military vets to dine together, for free, no sales, no gimmicks, just chow with other vets. The two upcoming dinners are:

Monday, December 3 @ St. Michaels’ Catholic Church
Monday, January 7 @ Trinity Campus Hosted by Light of the Word Church

  • Mother/Grandmother luncheon:  For all mothers and grandmothers of service men and women.
  • Cookie exchange: During the Holiday season the community members bake cookies for this event. Each member brings in two dozen cookies, one for exchange and for the cookie walk. The cookie walk is when cookies are delivered to service member families.
  • Patriotic day: Our annual Patriotic Day event is an opportunity for the entire community to recognize veterans. The event includes a free community pork chop dinner and a program honoring area veterans.

The Yellow Ribbon Network’s mission is to “engage local communities by organizing family support, providing community education and recognizing service members and their families.”
