Welcome back from your summer quarter break. I hope you all had a great start week and are enjoying the summer!
I am pleased to welcome 266 new and returning students to BC’s Early Fall 2012 quarter! We also welcome new faculty and staff to our campus this quarter. We warmly welcome Andrew Linaman, Admissions Consultant; Mao Yang, Admissions Consultant; and Michael Abram, IT Instructor. We also congratulate Alicia Larson who was promoted to the MA Program Chair and Tyler Shepard who was promoted to IT Program Chair. The campus is alive with activity which contributes to the wonderful atmosphere! So for those students returning, a big “THANKS” for making the school a great place, and for those who are new, you’re going to have fun!
One highlight regarding our programs and relationships is the launch of our AVID Postsecondary 3 year certification process at the Brooklyn Center Campus. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a college readiness system for elementary through Postsecondary that is designed to increase school wide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
Over the quarter break, a GEN Team comprised of Corporate Support and BC Staff embarked on this new project by attending the AVID Summer Institute in Dallas, TX. The BC team included Jana Gymer-Koch, BC-Campus Director; Ann Deiman, BC-Dean of Faculty; and Michelle Rivard, BC AVID Liaison/Writing Center Coordinator. Stay tuned for AVID updates throughout the year!
I am looking forward to a great Early Fall! Congratulations to all our incoming and returning students who will be joining us this quarter!
