At times, it can be difficult to find a meaningful and exciting service-learning project for the Business of Massage class. Diana Oberg, a Massage Therapy Instructor at MSB-Brooklyn Center, is teaching the class for the first time this quarter and began brainstorming almost immediately with her class to find out what they would be interested in doing. The students decided to hold a Health and Wellness Fair on campus on Thursday, May 17.
The goal of the fair was to educate the MSB community as well as friends and family that the students invited about the many benefits of massage and the different types of massages offered. Students set-up different stations and did paraffin hand wraps, chair massages, and reflexology. They also offered T’ai Chi demos and had a nutritionist on site to speak with guests. The price of admission to the event was a canned food item or a cash donation for CEAP. The students handed out water and brochures they created explaining the health benefits of massage. The event was a huge success with about 30 people showing up.
