Massage Therapy Research is Important

Posted by on May 29, 2012

Because of the longevity of massage therapy and body work we have a unique advantage in this industry when it comes to research.  We have 100′s of years of information and stories to draw from to learn about the benefits of massage therapy and body work.

Research that is proven and recognized is extremely important to our industry as it raises the respect for what we do.  It also helps all therapists and body workers in regards to helping their clients and chosing the best treatment for their issues. There are many organizations such as The Massage Therapy Foundation that are leading the industry in important research.

20 years ago when I became a massage practitioner we were told don’t massage people who have cancer, “they” said you could spread their cancer quicker.  This statement of course had no merit or research to support the claim.  However, in the last few years there has been research to support the benefit of massage therapy for many cancer patients.

We must continue to perform research that supports the benefits of massage for people suffering from injuries, diseases, emotional distress and so much more.  Massage therapy and Body work has been benefiting people from the beginning of time and will continue to do so and we must document those benefits.

Below I have included a link to a blog entry on The Massage Therapy Foundation’s website that discusses recent massage research that has been published.
