Candlelight Vigil Celebrating Nurses Week

Bachelor of Science nursing students and faculty celebrated the meaning of nursing at the Richfield campus last week in a moving Candlelight Vigil and Blessing of the Hands. The baccalaureate nursing students who attended reflected with nursing faculty on the rich history of nursing, leading to the scope of practice of the registered nurse in healthcare today and for the future. The ceremony included a recitation of a nursing pledge, modernized to today’s standards, celebrating nurses in diverse care settings, and culminated in the Blessing of the Hands as follows:

Our hands are an integral part of the care of our patients. It’s the hands that feel for the pulse or provide reassurance for the patient who is scared. It’s the hands we hold at the beginning and at the end of life – they are integral to our role as nurses.

May the work of your hands bring healing to all the people you touch.

May you be blessed with ….

  • a spirit of gentleness and a heart that is tender.
  • a spirit of strength shining within you.
  • a spirit of compassion and sincere caring.
  • a spirit of courage, daring to be who you are.
  • a spirit of openness, understanding & respect.

May all the work of your hands bring healing to all the people you touch.
