Stand Up Against Sexual Assault – Walk in Her Shoes

Posted by on April 26, 2012

For many years now, April has been designated as Sexual Assault Awareness month  in the United States.  The goal of the campaign is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.

At Minnesota School of Business in Elk River, an event, Walk in Her Shoes, is being hosted to bring awareness of sexual assault to students, staff, faculty and community members.

The name, “Walk in Her Shoes”, is based on the old saying, ” you can’t understand another person’s perspective until you have walked in their shoes.”  To represent this, men will be walking in women’s high heel shoes.  Women will also be participating in the walk to show support of men who are victimized by sexual assault as well.

The event is taking place on Wednesday, May 2nd at noon outside of the Elk River campus.  Students, staff and community members will be walking throughout the community to bring awareness to the campaign.

Participants are asked to donate $10 as a registration fee, which will be donated to Rivers of Hope, a local organization advocating against family violence.

Here are a few more details of the day:

  • Donations can be made the day of registration or day of the event
  • You will receive a t-shirt on the day of the event
  • We are collecting heels for the event-particularly larger sizes (8 +)

If you are interested in signing up to participate in the event, please contact Nicole Etter at or 763-367-7018
