As the weather heats up, it’s a great time to get your pets outdoors for some summer activities. But it can also be a dangerous time for pets, specifically with the threat of internal and external parasites, water safety, and the danger of the heat. Below are some tips to keep your pets safe and healthy this summer!
- Cats should be on heartworm prevention as well as flea and tick prevention-even if they are ‘indoor’ cats.
- Pets should always have access fresh water, shade, and protection from the possibility of bad weather.
- Do not leave pets in your car at any time for any reason. Even a short period of time in a car can be deadly-even with the windows cracked.
- Be sure your pet is comfortable around the water before taking him/her for a swim.
See your veterinarian for any specific questions and concerns regarding your pets. A good
general rule to follow is if you are wondering if you should bring your pet in-YOU SHOULD.
