Eight students and three staff members from the Minnesota School of Business in Moorhead made the 240 mile trek to the State Capitol in St. Paul to meet with legislators as a part of the Minnesota Career College Association Hill Day.

Students and staff had the opportunity to meet and speak with District 9A State Representative Morrie Lanning and District 9 State Senator Keith Langseth. District 9B State Representative Paul Marquart was unavailable at the time of the visit due to other appointments and committee obligations.

Students had the opportunity to tell their stories and express their opinions. They pointed out how important small class sizes, individual attention, and applied learning are to their education. Both legislators have visited the Moorhead campus in the past and seemed to enjoy their time with the group.

“We certainly appreciate everything the Minnesota School of Business provides to Moorhead and the community in general,” Representative Morrie Lanning said. “We hope all of the graduates stay in the area to find employment.”

This was also the first time many students had the opportunity to visit with state legislators and the state capitol.

“It was a good learning experience meeting people that I probably never would have met otherwise,” said Paralegal student Brent Bachmeier. “I think to get in front of legislators and give them your opinions is important.”

The group took a guided tour of the capitol building and were also addressed by  Minnesota Office of Higher Education Director Larry Pogemiller as a part of the day long event. The MCCA represents private post-secondary schools and colleges throughout the state of Minnesota.
