Students from VT 105-Introduction to Veterinary Technology, learned first hand how to be ring stewards at the Land O’Lakes Kennel Club Dog Show. This event, held at The River Centre in St. Paul, was a great hands on learning experience. The students worked with Camille McArdle,GEN Veterinary Technology Department director. Camille, who had three show bloodhounds of her own, instructed the students to look up the names of competitors and their animals, hand out the appropriately numbered arm bands, and check off and record attendees.
The students were expected to behave professionally while representing themselves and MSB-Shakopee.When the students were not in a show ring, they were encouraged to walk around the show and speak with competitors regarding their breed. This was a great opportunity to find out about specific breeds, since some of the 138 breeds represented are very rare, only seen at a dog show, and rarely in a clinic. Each student received a complimentary dog breed book from the American Kennel Club (AKC) booth.
Said VT instructor Sheree Peterson, “All in all the days went very well. The students were well received and professional.”
