So what is the future of graphic design? Unlike the statement made in the movie Ghost Busters, print is not dead. But is there a future for graphic designers? Yes, according to O*Net Online. I was recently looking for different titles for graphic designers and O*Net was recommended as a good source. I typed in graphic design and received a whole list of possible job titles. (http://www.onetonline.org/find/result?s=graphic+designer&g=Go) But the most important aspect of this search was the SUN icon and the word Bright Outlook next to the first title. I clicked on it and read this: “Bright Outlook occupations are expected to grow rapidly in the next several years, will have large numbers of job openings, or are new and emerging occupations.”
Someone told me that the companies that survived the Great Depression were those that continued to advertise. If you have a product to sell or an idea to promote, no one will ever know about it if you don’t advertise. Advertising can take on many forms, print, web, or even word of mouth. We at Globe University/Minnesota School of Business have developed (and continue to revise) a program to teach the skills graphic and web designers need every day.
