FAFSA Renewal Time Right Around the Corner!
Happy New Year and welcome to Winter Quarter
2012! All of us at MSB-Rochester wish you the best as we start a
new quarter and a new year.
It promises to be a year of hopefully new opportunities,
and a few changes, too, in the financial aid world.
As you may know, there are always a few changes to the
Federal Student Aid program each year.
This year, we’ll see some changes with the
way that the FAFSA is processed. It will still be submitted
online, via www.fafsa.gov. However, tax information will largely
be inputted directly via a link to the IRS website.
You will still need to have a copy of your Federal tax return
(1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) handy, but most of the information
can be transferred directly from the IRS.
Some students may also need to supply
further documentation, if requested, to support the tax
information provided on the FAFSA. Further details of
these changes will be available next month.
You may be receiving an email soon from the U.S.
Department of Education, asking you to re-file your
FAFSA for the 2012-2013 school year. Please note that
while you DO need to do this, it is necessary
to first file your 2011 taxes.
If you don’t file your taxes first, you will need to go
back onto your FAFSA and submit corrections later.
Save yourself a step and file taxes first!
Look for the new financial aid renewal packets, including instructions,
deadlines, and help session dates, coming out in mid-February
during the Registration Fair, February 14th and 15th!
