Most of you are familiar with the idea of collecting evidence from a crime scene. There are dozens of TV’s shows that evolve solely on collecting items from a crime scene to determine what happened. A crucial part of the criminal justice system is crime scene investigation and crime analysis. Investigators document the condition of the location, collect evidence and use it to try to piece together the crime. This process can involve anything from collecting fingerprints, hair, searching for weapons or illegal substances all while avoiding contaminating the crime scene. Simply moving a piece of paper, or adjusting the layout can affect the crime scene. It’s a delicate task that requires training and practice, which is why it can make or break a case. Once evidence is collected it is sent the lab to be analyzed by the forensic team.
