The MSB-Brooklyn Center campus participated in the Santa for a Senior gift program for the second straight year. The Santa for a Senior program aides in spreading Christmas cheer to several local senior citizens. This year the Brooklyn Center campus collected gift for over two weeks and did a “Jeans Week” cash fundraiser and were able to deliver enough presents to 50 senior citizens in the Brooklyn Center community. The wish lists included cameras, hat and mittens, board games, snacks, holiday pins and ornaments, slippers, and much more.
The Brooklyn Center staff incorporated the gift wrapping into their quarterly all school meeting. Santa Claus was on hand to oversee all of his elves in his workshop and sat down for some hot chocolate and asked the staff what they would like for Christmas this year. The Santa for a Senior program is orchestrated by Home Instead Senior Care. They have multiple care centers throughout the Twin Cities metro area.
The Santa for a Senior program consists of local area business setting up a Christmas tree filled with gift ideas written on ornaments from local senior citizens. Anyone can pick up an ornament off the tree, purchase the listed gifts, and return them to the Christmas tree. Once all of the presents have been collected, volunteers will wrap and delivery the presents prior to Christmas.
