The Minnesota School of Business-Richfield announced today that business management student Heather Dragstra was selected by the Minnesota Career College Association (MCCA) as the organization’s “2011 Student of the Year.”
Dragstra’s story is one of extraordinary academic achievement while overcoming serious health setbacks. Amazingly, she gave her all even while undergoing surgery and chemo/radiation treatments for grade 3 brain cancer. The successful treatments have put the cancer in remission and Dragstra is eager to finish her degree.
With an average workload of 19 credits per quarter, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA and perfect attendance. In addition to her school focus, Dragstra has a full schedule staying involved with the student organization DECA and the campus’s local community. “She [Dragstra] has been an inspiration to all of us here on campus,” said Richfield Campus Director, Stacy Severson.
MCCA made the student-of-the-year announcement at its annual professional development conference late October.
