As part of Massage Therapy Awareness Week, students at the Minnesota School of Business-Plymouth had the opportunity to learn from industry expert Brian Trewartha on the science and process of acupuncture as a form of therapy on Monday.
Approximately 15 students took in a presentation from Trewartha, an acupuncturist at Hennepin Faculty Associates and instructor with MSB, which included a brief history, tools and different techniques used within acupuncture.
Students took in a cupping demonstration, and witnessed and received different forms of acupuncture in the classroom.
“The students got a lot out of the afternoon,” said massage therapy chair Regina Hughes. “We work hard to give our students different perspectives and additional continuing education opportunities. This was another great chance for our students to broaden their expertise as therapists and bodywork experts.”
The Plymouth campus will continue to celebrate massage awareness week throughout the week with hand treatments, reflexology assessments and the release of the MSB-Plymouth free massage clinic schedule on Tuesday, followed by chair massages on Wednesday.
Cost for the hand treatments is a donation while the chair massages will be $5. All proceeds will go to benefit a new community hospice center for the Community Health Foundation of Wright County.
