Vet Tech service learning students who wanted to help an animal shelter and provide a community service found an ideal partner in Lucky’s Place in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. The non-profit is a no-kill shelter which, since 2004, provides a safe environment for its “guests” for short-term care, rehabilitation or even a permanent residence.
Students prepared a dog-bite prevention presentation for the shelter’s biggest fundraiser of the year and solicited donations from organizations and retailers throughout central Minnesota for goodie bags for the kids. The bags included coloring sheets, fruit snacks, stickers and toys. In addition, volunteers sold hot dogs, lemonade, and bouja, as well as conducted a silent auction.
Participants toured the facilities including the cat sanctuary and horse barns. All animal guests were grateful for the day!
