Therapeutic riding for some starts with a walk through the petting zoo

The first thing that sticks out when walking around Majestic Hills Ranch is the horses. There are dozens of horses wandering the rolling hills of this facility. These animals vary in size from tiny ponies to massive horses.

The Majestic Hills Ranch utilizes these horses with a number of volunteers to provide therapeutic riding to those who need it. The conditions that can be treated this way are Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Down Syndrome, Cancer, Autism, ADHD/ADD, Paraplegic disabilities, amputees, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, brain injury/head trauma to name a few.

Minnesota School of Business in Lakeville has worked with the ranch many different times and in many different ways. Majestic Hills Ranch is the large animal clinic for the Minnesota School of Business Lakeville veterinary program.

The most recent contribution from the school to the ranch was the help to make the petting zoo better. Staff and students got together to assist in moving some fencing and assist in preparations for the new retaining wall.

Believe it or not, the petting zoo is an essential asset for the ranch. A horse can be quite intimidating for a young child. The child will take a tour of the petting zoo which has chickens, goats, and pigs. Eventually they move up to petting the horse. This helps the children to be less afraid of the horses they will be riding.
