Icon Systems benefits from class analysis

As part of an applied learning project, the Internet Marketing class at Minnesota School of Business-Moorhead developed an internet marketing plan for a company that develops church software nationwide.

Moorhead, Minnesota-based Icon Systems has been a leader in the industry for nearly 20 years, but after a market analysis, students identified some areas on the company’s website that could be improved. The project provided the students with real-world business experience.

Student Austin Montogomery analyzed the competition and summarized the findings. “It was a challenging analysis because it’s not a product you see or hear about very often,” Montgomery said. “It’s way better than reading hypothetical situations in a book.”

Based on the students’ analysis, Icon Systems is restructuring its website to offer prospective clients a greater understanding of its company and product’s features.

“I think it’s great they are going to implement some of our suggestions,” student Kay Mitchell said.

Student Draper Harlo added, “It was interesting to figure out what they needed and why they needed it.”

Students presented their findings and in return received suggestions for future presentations. “I got a lot of great feedback on my energy and speaking quality,” Mitchell said.
