Global Citizenship students support members of the armed forces with photography
Minnesota School of Business–Rochester students helped organize the 1st Annual Portraits for Patriots photo shoot for a service-learning project. The event provided free photo sittings for local military members and their families.
Bobbi Kyllo, Minnesota School of Business graduate and professional photographer, initiated the event. Students set up and took down tables and chairs, decorated and served lunch. Some also worked as photographer assistants, positioning attendees in the photo area and adding their contact information to a computer database for tracking purposes.
Student and Navy veteran Joseph Halleland said the experience was rewarding. “I’m a veteran myself and it was an honor to help a good cause. I will continue to be involved with this group and watch it grow.”
MSB–Rochester has always had a special place in its heart for the military, and Kyllo admired the service-learning students’ enthusiastic support.
“The level of participation given by students for the event was above and beyond my expectations,” Kyllo said. “Everyone was dedicated and showed so much enthusiasm in their involvement. Portraits for Patriots wouldn’t have been a success without them.”
The photos taken will be printed on professional-grade paper and given to all attendees.
