Online student gets involved to help amputees

Scott Tjaden, an online student enrolled in Minnesota School of Business’s business management program, completed a service-learning project with nonprofit Wiggle Your Toes, which supports people who have lost limbs.

Tjaden has been an above-the-knee amputee for more than 30 years and said his service-learning project was the stimulus that finally pushed him to become involved with helping other amputees.

Wiggle Your Toes assists individuals who have suffered limb loss in their recovery and rehabilitation efforts through consultation, planning and referrals.  Tjaden served as a peer supporter and provided support, encouragement and guidance to fellow amputees.

As a peer supporter, Tjaden’s goal is to help the amputees get back to a normal life and provide them resources. “It is a great experience to connect with other amputees,” he said.
